She didn’t want to sell, they were nice to her and gave her gifts and when she still wouldn’t sell things became nasty. Council didn’t grade her road, mail was always late or wet, diesel and petrol supplies often had water in them, and seized her motors, and there were mysterious bushfires in winter. Abel heard about it from his mother’s letters and felt helpless. The developers’ didn’t understand it was Dora’s life and love and Abel hated how it wore her down. Dora beat the businessmen by being patient and eventually outlasted them.
