Summary:
They have a little party on the veranda to celebrate their home coming and as she gets up Dora falls over, her hip is broken, they call the ambulance and as Abel picks her up she cries “I am old Abel, I am sorry but I am old.” She spends several weeks in hospital and while she is there Abel cleans the house up, it has become very run down. He gets calls from all over the world day and night but he keeps cleaning the house up. Abel worries how his mother will cope if she has to live in town, the place is calling him. Stella says that they are going to live there she knows it is what Abel wants and she has rung the Foundation and quit for them both. Dora comes home from hospital and they nurse her back to health. She can finally stand again. The three of them worked together on the reef and wrote papers about abalone breeding, and eventually a baby girl was born, they called her Dora.
